New GCSE grading system

The new 9 to 1 grading system for GCSE. I have had many parents ask me about how it works and what the grades mean. I always suggest that assume a grade 6 is a high B grade (on the old system). This means that:

5 = low B/high C grade
4 = is a pass, so a low C

Although, this may not strictly be true, it is a good starting point in order to try to understand the new system. For the 7, 8 and 9 grades, it is always best to try to understand that the two top grades are equivalent to a A* and A** respectively.

9 = A**
8= A*
7 = A

Essentially, the new grades are set up to give a clearer understanding of where a student lies in the older system - in theory it should give employers and educational institutions a better idea of the achievements of each pupil. the percentage of pupils representing each grade will still be calculated in the same way, just that each grade will be split further into different bands.

Below is a link to an explanation by Pearsons and a diagram by Pearsons which shows how the grade sytem works againt the old sytem.

New Location

We officially launched a new session in a new location this academic year in Coventry and I am happy to say that it has been a roaring success! Our second site is in Coventry and we still aim to provide the best quality tuition.

Our second site is based at Finham Park School Coventry on Tuesday evenings - these sessions have started out very small as we were introducing our services to the south side of Coventry and are very pleased that these sessions have now come on from strength to strength. From just providing English, Maths & Science through Key Stages 2- 4 (GCSE), we have now expanded to offer various A level subjects too. For example: Maths, Physics, Biology and Chemistry.

At Talent Tuition, we are always looking to provide the best tuition possible for our pupils and we are now extremely keen to push our COMMUNITY FORUM. This area on the website helps our enrolled pupils further by providing them with extra support outside of our tuition sessions. A private arena whereby tutors, parents and other pupils can help each other out with problems - Tutors will also upload sheets, helpful links and explanations which help our pupils progress. We encourage our enrolled pupils and parents alike to log in and have a browse. What is even better, this is a FREE service provided by us to our customers.

LOOKING AHEAD...

Our focus is always to help our pupils get through their exams and achieve the best they can. With that in mind we will be looking to hold BOOSTER SESSIONS on various subjects and levels through the EASTER break. These will include A level subjects, GCSE and even Year 6 SATs. You do not even have to be enrolled at Talent Tuition to take advantage of these sessions, just send us an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Exam Booster Revision Sessions 2015

In April we successfully ran our first ever Revision Booster Sessions for A level and GCSE exam students. We are proud to say that we received a lot of positive feedback. Our sessions were jam packed with exam tips and information students required for their exams.

Our Maths and Science tutors who normally teach during our weekly tuition sessions also stated that they felt all pupils made substantial progress by the end of the sessions. Alongside the tutor's wealth of knowledge, students were provided with our EXAM BOOSTER PACK, filled with a comprehensive assortment of exam questions.

Most pupils suggested that the sessions really helped their confidence and now had a better understanding of how to interpret exam question. They also felt more comfortable and confident with some difficult content within their courses.

AS Biology/Chemistry

Coventry qualified tutor"The session was very useful and I found it a great help to right before AS exams. I would recommend it to anyone struggling on their subjects, as it really equips you with skills and practice you need for the exams." (Ansam)

"Booster sessions helped me revise topics I was struggling on that I had already covered in school but hadn't fully grasped" (Dhani)

"Today's sessions was very helpful. I am now more confident in the topics that we covered and can answer different types of exam questions on these topics." (Nisha)

"A really useful example of how effective tuition can be, especially when it is given by tutors with deep subject knowledge. I feel far more confident for the coming exams." (Rob)

GCSE Maths

"It has been a productive day as I have gone through all the topics I find difficult and now I feel a lot more confident with them." (Amrit)

EASTER REVISION BOOSTER SESSIONS!

maths chemistry biology physics tutorsStarting REVISION can be difficult and as a result stressful for pupils and parents alike. Are they covering the correct content? Are they leaving enough time to answer exam questions? Worried that they might not be receiving the appropriate guidance?

Many pupils on the other hand can find it hard to find motivation to start revision. As teachers, we always say "the earlier, the better", but this can sometimes can "fall on deaf ears".

We have seen time and time again individuals leaving it too late and "cramming" revision in last minute. As a result, this means something has had to be compromised or even sacrificed, whether it be a particular topic and subsequently hoping it does not come up in the exam or just as importantly leaving out that essential exam practice.

It is essential to cover all of the information for the subjects but this must include testing your ability to apply your knowledge in the exam. To drive pupils to start revision earlier may only come down to a few simple things, such as; helping them break that first barrier and having a "few" topics "revised".

This Easter
, at Talent Tuition, we are providing 5 hour revision booster sessions for A Level and GCSE exam students, to help them get started and improve grades. We will cover the major topics of each subject, which, as teachers and tutors know commonly come up in exams or are deemed difficult to understand. Each of our sessions will be taken and taught by qualified specialist teachers who are experienced in their fields. They will also give exam advice and cover exam questions for each topic so pupils are aware of the "do's" and "don'ts" during exam situations.

We will be covering:

- GCSE Maths and AS Biology on the 07/04/15;
- AS Maths on the 08/04/15; and
- AS Chemistry on the 10/04/15.

All these sessions are 5 hours long starting from £59 per session. We are aiming to give the best value for money but not only that, QUALITY not quantity - this is more important to us and as a result we are only offering a handful of places.
